Typically reserved only for the aerospace industry, high temperature carbon fiber options have been limited, extremely expensive, and usually built to order with very long lead-times. High temperature was specifically developed to appeal to non-aerospace customers who need a more affordable alternative to carbon-carbon, yet one that can take prolonged temperatures in excess of 500 F and shorter durations up to 3,000 F, for example when hit with a torch.
High temperature is currently available as a standard product in both flat sheets and round tubes, and will soon be offered in square and rectangular tubes, angles, C-channel, and hat stiffeners. Any of these, as well as custom shapes and sizes, can be quoted at any time, offering engineers working on projects requiring both lightweight and temperature resistant components an entirely new option during the design phase.
At half the weight of aluminum, yet nearly as rigid, high temperature panels and high temperature tubes provide the ideal weight reduction solution for a wide range of applications including auto (for example, in glass manufacturing), fire resistant electronics enclosures, unmanned vehicles, and scientific equipment. Thick high temperature carbon fiber plates make excellent tooling surfaces, since they can take the heat of the curing cycle with minimal deformation.
